Indian Cricket's Diamond Jubilee!!
Indian Cricket's Diamond Jubilee!!
Posted: Mon Jun 25, 2007 11:18 pm
Today is June 25. 75 years ago, in 1932, 11 men walked on to Cricket's most hallowed turf, at the Lord's to face Douglas Jardine's formidable Englishmen! They were to play India's first official Test and carried with them the hopes of an undivided nation. Well, the team under C.K.Nayudu suffered a 158-runs loss but the win wasn't very easy for the opponents-they really had to sweat it out!
The growth and develpoment of Indian cricket has been steady ever since. Its description is a Hurculean task and the space would prove to be insufficient! To cut the long story short, it can be said that a period of 75 years has metamorphised the face of Indian Cricket and it has turned out to be the passion of many. The nation is now termed as 'cricket crazy'! What remains is the characteristic of the Indian cricket team- Individual brilliance and collective mediocrity!
Right now, the Indian Cricket team is not in the best shape- the team not only lacks a coach but also faces the problem of loss of form of its leading players.
On the occasion of the diamond jubilee of Indian Cricket, we wish them the best of luck. We hope to see them play with the same zeal and confidence with which they brought home the World Cup in 1983!

Indian Cricket's Diamond Jubilee!!

On the eve of the diamond jubilee of Indian cricket, 9 out of 15 of the playing squad were down with flu, in Ireland, just a day before their first ODI against SA, in the Future Cup 2007 which has 4 participating nations namely hosts Ireland, India, Pakistan and South Africa.
In the match that was held a few hours ago, SA won by 4 wickets but India despite having the key players down with flu, put up a good game! They ended with a total of 242/8 with Tendulkar(back in form) contributing 99 crucial runs! Captain Dravid, despite the flu, managed 73 runs. On the other side, Captain Kallis hit a commendable 91 not out off 116 balls and was declared the Man of the Match. The next match between the 2 teams is on 29th june. We hope the our team recovers from the illness till then!

There you go. Shows how impatient the Indian Fan is and how much he/she likes to jumps to conclucions. So what you mean to say is that a 99 run knock means getting back in form? Wait till he gets out on a duck in the next match or takes back a single digit score with him when walking back to the pavillion!

First and foremost, i'm neither a fan nor a critic of the game. I have always posted as a neutral follower of the game.
My comment on Sachin being back in form simply shows how optimistic i'm! I have always been against the norm of worshipping players when they do well and dumping them when they disappoint (there have been many posts on this subject in the past!). I have always maintained that it's not the players' fault - it's just that they are a little unfortunate! It's not their fault that they don't have a proper coach for a long time now! So, won't it be good if we give them a pat on their back if they do well despite all the probems that they are facing?

Hehe! I have got to laugh now! I stopped watching cricket because I felt that it is because of the Indian public that the game is sinking. Who told you that they have never have had a good coach? If Greg wasn't 'GOOD' enough for the Indian team why did they hire him? Why was Ganguly so impressed with the guy earlier.
The problem with Indians is extensive infighting. They consider themeselves nothing less than Gods because they are literally preached by some useless Fanatics.
The Indian team has a lot of stars Individually, but when put together they fail to click as a team.
Here is an example to prove what a person means to a team. I remember Australia playing some good team and for some unknown reason they seemed to be out of touch. The Commentator then told that Michael Bevan was out of the team due to some reasons. Now this is what a team man can do to you? Who knows Bevan? He didn't have the great records like the Tendulkars and Gangulys, but was an integral part of the team in his times.

I wasn't referring to Greg Chappell! I was talking about the recent confusion regarding the coach (all that happened about Graham Ford).
And regarding the teamwork, i had posted in the very first post in this thread that the team lacks team brilliance despite individual competence. I think you should devote a little more time to reading others' posts more carefully!
This fault can be corrected only if there is a top authority who actually guides them in the right direction, for instance, the coach. And this much coveted correction process has been hindered by politicizing the whole issue! What can the players do about it?!
And by the way, who doesn't like being appreciated or worshipped? If you are so against this whole thing, why don't you go and explain it to those 'fanatics' who are the actual responsible ones here!

Well, good news for Indian fans! Not only did India win the match that was held today against SA by 6 wickets, also Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman ever to cross the 15000 run mark. Now that's something great!
