The Black Monkey!
The Black Monkey!

Hi guys..
many of you must have watched the movie by Rakeysh Mehra... No, not RDB, the new one, Delhi 6
I didnt like the movie as it had too much of what Rakeysh wanted to show. But there was some depth in the movie, and Rakeysh Mehra doesnt do anything in air, the only problem with that movie according to me, was that he cudnt show the important issue in a way that he did in RDB. The movie sometimes becomes too complex, and sometimes impractically stupid.
Well.. keeping that aside, I am gona talk about the black monkey.
I dont how many of you have heard that song, so nicely written by Prasoon Joshi. I consider him no less than Javed Akhtar.
Listen to that song and just notice the lyrics, I m quoting some lines read it
..............
saarey reeti riwaz hata kar
dekho apne ghar ke andar
shayad kahin kisi kone mein
oongh raha hai kaala bandar
in galion main rang hain kitne
kitne partein kitne pardey
kitne partein kitne pardey
kitne partein kitne pardey
aur pardon ke peechhe pardey
aur pardon ke par kahin par
dard chhupaa hai
ghav chhupey hain
raaz kayee dabe paaon ghuse hai
jaanke bhi anjaan hai hum sab
paagal ya nadaan hai hum sab
paagal ya nadaan hai hum sab
...........

Prasoon Joshi is the best Bollywood lyricist i have come across. He's truly truly amazing! Javed Akhtar has never been among my favourites. But Gulzar is another wonder. Prasoon Joshi is tough competition to him! Both their songs ACTUALLY make sense!
Well, talking about his sensibilities, i remember seeing one of his interviews on a talk show where he was given some products for which he had to think of some tagline. And the answers he gave were quick and smart! For those who don't know, he has to his credit the creation of some great ads, one of them being the Happydent chewing gum where he has made human beings' teeth act as sources of light! Mindblowing concept! Kudos to him!

Prasoon Joshi is indeed a great lyricist...But as regarding Gulzar,I would call him a maverick genius.......He has given Bollywood the best songs it has,he has also directed a couple of great movies......but his performance sways like a pendulum...try making sense of a couple of songs of Yuvvraj...you will be at a loss!!
Anyways, try some of the songs of Maachis.....among the best you will come across...the movie's a masterpiece as well.

prasoon joshi is a very good lyricist, i m not denying he have shown us in rdb, tzp and delhi 6.
but Gulzar and Jawed Akhtar are the Gems of Film industry . They r serving film industry for long they have given us incredible songs, if i m gong to start listing their works it wud b never ending list. So comparing him wid them is i think little early.
its like camparing sehwag wid sachin.

Atif is right in saying that its premature to compare the legend Gulzar and Prasoon. In fact, it will be unfair to Prasoon
He is only 37 whereas Gulzar saab is 73 (almost twice).
I would like to mention that Prasoon's talent is not confined to Lyrics only, he has made his impression in the 'creative' advertisement industry also. I respect Gulzar saab and Javed Akhtar saab, but as an emerging talent, Prasoon is simply awesome!!
Have a look at the few more facts about Prasoon
2003: Cannes Lion Award: Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival: Thanda Matlab Coca-Cola campaign.
The films in which he has worked as a lyricsist:
Delhi 6, Ghajini, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Taare Zameen Par, Fanaa, Rang De Basanti, Black, Phir Milenge, Hum Tum, Aankhen, Lajja (film)
Looking at the quality of the songs in the above flicks, he seems to be becoming one of the greatest lyricsist of Indian Film Industry.

Come on,Mohsin...Don't think from the heart........
Everyone knows that Prasoon Joshi was criticised as early as Fanaa for the use of Urdu in an improper way....and all that IS true!!
I agree completely that he is a great, great thinker and has a way with words...the way he looks at mundane things is really different and awesome...but to start comparing him with Gulzar saab and Javed saab is not apt.......if you talk about age,let me tell you that creativity in talents like poetry actually wanes with age....numerous legendary lyricists and poets have all written their best works early in their career...and that is testimony to the fact!
Khair, let's not waste our time in comparing greats....instead try listening to songs by Saeed Quadri....they are as good as the other greats....

Well.. I always try to think with my heart and I 'think' its good and safe. [Reference: A Beautiful Mind 1:44:16]
And Yes, there is no good in comparing the maestros, in fact there can never be an absolute comparison. Further, I have deep respect for all the three prodigious talents, so its better to leave the two senior lyricists for time being as this topic is about Prasoon's piece of work.
I was just watching Taare Zameen Par on Zee Cinema.. (No doubt Aamir is great ;)). but the songs gave me goosebumps !!
'Maa' is out of the world, no doubt. Title track is also amazing..
consider..
Kabhi Baatein Jaise Dadi Nani
Kabhi Chalkein Jaise Mum Mum Paani
Kabhi Ban Jaaye Bhole
Sawaalon Ki Jhadi
Sannatey Mein Hansee Ke Jaise
Sooney Hothon Pe Khushi Ke Jaise
Yeh To Noor Hain Barse Gar
Teri Kismat Ho Badi
@ Kashif and Atif
I will be soon opening a thread about Gulzar saab and Javed saab also. Who can never forget Saathiya and Swades
