Finally a podium finish.. Good going..

courtesy: www.forceindiaf1.com

Giancarlo started from pole position, making an excellent start to lead the field through the first hairpin turn and round the first lap. An accident further down the field called for a safety car to be deployed and, despite strong defence on the restart he was unable to hold off the KERS-equipped Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen. Giancarlo then matched Kimi’s lap times lap after lap until they pitted on exactly the same lap (lap 14). Rejoining just metres from Kimi, Giancarlo continued to shadow the Ferrari until his second stop, which again came on the same lap (lap 31). Giancarlo was generally quicker than the Ferrari but Kimi’s use of KERS kept him ahead, leaving Giancarlo just 0.939secs away from scoring an unprecedented win.
Adrian Sutil had started from 11th position but was unfortunately a victim of a start line accident that cost him his front wing. The German was forced to pit and rejoined far down the field. A strategy adjustment to a one-stopper gave him opportunity to move to 9th position, pulling off some spectacular overtaking maneouvres in the process. He again finished a strong race within sight of the points in 11th position.

In Fisichella's own words

	Quote::

It’s been another great day and it was an amazing result today. Before coming to Spa if you had asked all the team if we would have been happy to finish eighth we would have said it was a fantastic result but second is a dream, just great. Actually if I can be honest I am a little disappointed as I felt we could have won the race. I was unlucky with the safety car when Kimi came past me at the restart and overtook me with the KERS. Actually behind him I was quicker but with the KERS I couldn’t get past as it was impossible to be quick on the long straight. But we can’t take it away from the fantastic result, both at the track and in the factory to get this result. After yesterday I was pretty confident to score points, it’s positive for the championship and for the coming races. A big thank you to everyone.

The Best Business Schools of the World.. by Forbes

The biennial survey of business schools is done by Forbes.
The ranking of M.B.A. programs is based on the return on investment achieved by the graduates from the class of 2004. They surveyed 17,000 alumni at 103 schools and heard back from 24% of those grads. They compared their earnings in their first five years out of business school to their opportunity cost (two years of forgone compensation, tuition and required fees). They adjusted for cost of living expenses and discounted their earnings gains using a rate tied to money market yields.

Are There Bright Spots Amid the Global Recession?

Got this article on forbes.com
Nouriel Roubini

This week, I take a look at which countries have best weathered the global recession and credit crunch. All economies have been affected by the crisis, but a combination of policy responses and strong fundamentals has given some countries, especially some emerging market economies, a relative edge. These same strengths could lead the countries I highlight below to perform better as the global recovery begins, even if their growth rates remain well below 2003-07 trends.

What do these countries have in common? One major theme is that they tended to have lower financial vulnerabilities due to more restrictive regulation and less developed financial markets, as well as larger and stronger domestic markets that sustained domestic demand. Moreover, they had the resources to engage in countercyclical fiscal and monetary policies, actions that were not possible in past crises. In contrast, countries that borrowed heavily to finance domestic consumption in the days of easy money are now facing sharp economic contractions. Despite the relative strength of these countries, however, their ability to return to sustained growth will depend on structural reforms that support consumption.

The article gives details about the resistant and quick recovery of each of these nations.

HIV virus genome decoded!!

A major breakthrough in understanding the AIDS virus. This might lead to invention of cure for the fatal disease. Now since the genome is known, experiments need to performed to see the reaction of this genome towards different chemicals or radiation and if the growth of virus is halted, we will be having able to cure HIV. Below is the abstract of the paper published in Nature.
Architecture and secondary structure of an entire HIV-1 RNA genome

Single-stranded RNA viruses encompass broad classes of infectious agents and cause the common cold, cancer, AIDS and other serious health threats. Viral replication is regulated at many levels, including the use of conserved genomic RNA structures. Most potential regulatory elements in viral RNA genomes are uncharacterized. Here we report the structure of an entire HIV-1 genome at single nucleotide resolution using SHAPE, a high-throughput RNA analysis technology. The genome encodes protein structure at two levels. In addition to the correspondence between RNA and protein primary sequences, a correlation exists between high levels of RNA structure and sequences that encode inter-domain loops in HIV proteins. This correlation suggests that RNA structure modulates ribosome elongation to promote native protein folding. Some simple genome elements previously shown to be important, including the ribosomal gag-pol frameshift stem-loop, are components of larger RNA motifs. We also identify organizational principles for unstructured RNA regions, including splice site acceptors and hypervariable regions. These results emphasize that the HIV-1 genome and, potentially, many coding RNAs are punctuated by previously unrecognized regulatory motifs and that extensive RNA structure constitutes an important component of the genetic code.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt resigns from Apple board

[source: ndtv profit]
Google CEO Eric Schmidt has resigned from Apple's board of directors.

Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs said Schmidt would have had to recuse himself from large portions of the company's board meetings. That's because Google Inc. is entering more of Apple's core businesses, the Cupertino, Calif.-based computer and gadget maker said. Jobs said the decision was mutual.

The decision comes a few months after Schmidt expressed confidence that a government inquiry into his role on Apple's board won't find any evidence that the ties between the two companies throttle competition in mobile phones and elsewhere.

He said in May, in a media session ahead of Google's annual shareholder meeting, that he hasn't considered stepping down as an Apple director because he doesn't view the company as a "primary competitor."

Schmidt had been on Apple's board since August 2006. His resignation comes as the Federal Trade Commission is looking into whether Google's common ties with Apple might discourage competition.

Google's Android operating system is used in mobile devices that compete with Apple's iPhone. And Google is also developing a free operating system based on its Web browser, Chrome. Meanwhile,

Google has recently turned its 2007 acquisition of GrandCentral into Google Voice, which assigns a unique phone number to each user and lets the user direct calls to that number to any other phone line.

Relationships between the two company haven't always been smooth. On Friday, the Federal Communications Commission sent letters to Apple and Google — as well as Apple's iPhone partner in the United States, AT&T Inc. — seeking more information on Apple's rejection of Google Voice's application for the iPhone.

Microsoft smart deal with Yahoo!

[source forbes.com]
Rebecca Buckman,
The Redmond, Wash., giant is spending little in its deal with Yahoo! and could use revenues from the deal to battle Google in software, not search.

Last year, Microsoft was so desperate to shore up its lagging position in Web-search advertising that it offered more than $45 billion to buy Yahoo!, the No. 2 search player.

Now, not buying Yahoo! ( YHOO - news - people ) is looking like one of the smartest things Microsoft ( MSFT - news - people ) ever did.

Instead of spending hordes of cash--and grappling with a messy integration of another company's employees, culture and technology--Microsoft got what it wanted from Yahoo! for a modest amount of money and a lot fewer headaches. The just-announced deal, through which Microsoft and Yahoo! will partner in search and related advertising, should cost Microsoft only about $500 million to $1 billion a year, far less than an outright acquisition, says Technology Business Research senior analyst Allan B. Krans.

As Krans put it in a research note Tuesday: "Microsoft gets its milk without buying the cow."

Indeed, the partnership looks in many ways like a better deal for Microsoft than it does for Yahoo!. The tie-up roughly triples Microsoft's share of the Internet-search market and gives its highly-touted Bing search engine more visibility. (Yahoo! will use Bing as its default search engine.) The two companies also will leverage Microsoft's Ad Center technology to deal with some customers, though larger accounts will go through Yahoo!'s sales force.

Yahoo!'s search business expands, but not as much as Microsoft's. Yahoo! also didn't get a big upfront payment from Microsoft, something Wall Street analysts were hoping for. Those factors helped drive down Yahoo!'s shares 12% to $15.14 Wednesday .

Only Schumi can cover for Massa and he will!

Michael Schumacher has agreed to stand in for the injured Ferrari Formula One driver Felipe Massa for the rest of the season, the Italian team have announced. The seven-time world champion will return to the pit lane for the first time since retiring in 2006.

Schumacher, Formula One's most successful driver with 91 wins, is still a consultant to the Italian team with whom he won five titles and remains in good physical condition, working out regularly.

"Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro intends to put Michael Schumacher in Felipe Massa's car until the Brazilian driver will be able to race again," Ferrari confirmed in a statement.

"Michael Schumacher said he is ready and, over the next few days, will undertake a specific training programme at the end of which confirmation will be given of his participation in the championship with effect from the European Grand Prix on the 23rd of August."

Massa, last year's championship runner-up, fractured his skull in an accident during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday and remains in intensive care in a Budapest hospital.

The Brazilian, a close friend of Schumacher from their time together at Ferrari, was hit just above his left eye by a bouncing spring weighing almost a kilo that broke free from compatriot Rubens Barrichello's Brawn car.

Massa was due to leave intensive care today after taking his first steps since he fractured his skull.

The brilliant beater man, Brilliant Biedermann !!

Germany's Paul Biedermann beat Michael Phelps in the men's 200m freestyle final to win gold - obliterating the American's world record in the process.

Biedermann led from the second turn and finished in one minute 42.00 seconds beating Phelps' record by 0.96.
The 22-year-old adds the 200m title and record to the 400m title and world best he achieved on Monday.
Phelps, who touched home in 1:43.22, suffered his first major individual loss in four years.
That occurred at the 2005 World Championships when Ian Crocker beat him in the final of the 100m butterfly.

The 24-year-old, who won eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, said fatigue cost him in the last part of the race.
"I'm a little disappointed that I kind of got tired in the last 20m, 30m of that race," said the American, who picked himself up after the defeat to qualify second fastest for Wednesday's 200m butterfly.
"Biedermann just took off, he took it to a new level in that race, that's a good swim for him.
"He's come down a lot in the last year and I think it's going to be fun next year when swimming's back to swimming."
The German champion was overjoyed with his sensational win.

"For the moment it is just like a dream," he said. "It's such an amazing feeling. I'm so fine."
Biedermann wore a 100% polyurethane swimsuit which has been worn by all but one of the individual swimming champions in Rome. Phelps wore a part-polyurethane costume.
The German strongly hinted that he may not have won gold had it not been for his suit.

Felipe Massa meets acciddent !!!

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa will be kept under sedation for 48 hours after he suffered a fractured skull during Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying.

The Brazilian hit a tyre wall after a spring from Rubens Barrichello's car flew up and hit his helmet.

Massa was woken on Sunday for a brain scan that produced reassuring results.

"It brought the result that we had expected concerning an injury of this type," said doctor in chief Peter Bazso at Budapest's AEK military hospital.

Massa's father, mother and pregnant wife have flown in to Hungary from Brazil, and the doctor added that the driver remained in intensive care and in an "acute phase" of treatment.
[courtesy: bbc.co.uk]
After the accident the dangerousness of car racing is evident. Watching the cars running at hundreds of miles per hour brings excitement but for the drivers it's not that easy. Felipe Masa has always been my favourite in F1. Knowing about his accident was very upsetting. Praying for his recovery.
